Film Review - Nonton LK21

Nonton LK21 is the first film produced by Park Niro and James Franco in Indonesia. It is a hip-hop drama set in Jakarta during the 1990s. The film contains some contemporary urban scenes, however it also explores the past, using rich themes from earlier Indonesian history.

Some of the features found in Nonton LK21 are similar to other films released in Indonesia; it mostly shows urban streets and scenes with drug addicts. Unlike other films such as Boyfriend and My Scientology Movie, the director did not have any clue about using modern slang, and most of the scenes were recorded in the studio.

Though the plot of the film is focused on jungle street scenes, much of the film is focused on historical topics in Indonesia. The main focus of the film is on Jakarta and Indonesia's pre-colonial past. Many famous historical characters are also portrayed in the film.

The Nonton LK21 movie takes place in three time periods: an early Islam period, a middle Islam period and an Edo period. The film covers the history of Jakarta in the three different periods. Most of the movie is set in the early Islam period, where many streets are still filled with people enjoying the use of marijuana.

The film highlights the rise of the Suharto dictatorship through the scenes depicting how people used to handle their social life in Jakarta. Several scenes show how people smoked marijuana and sold it to each other. However, this scene was edited out, to avoid creating a negative stereotype in the film.

Although the Nonton LK21 film highlights the pre-Islamic period of Jakarta, the movie also includes scenes of a tumultuous period in Indonesia history. The period was the time when a division took place between the government and the people. The political factions formed the two opposing sides of the film; a conservative group in power, while the poor and the street people were supporting and opposing the ruling party.

The film also has a large role of several police officers that were involved in fighting against the Jakarta city. They are depicted as human rights activists, trying to bring down the police who were fighting against the government. During these scenes, the police officers are seen using modern equipment that includes gas masks, rockets and some even carried automatic rifles.

Most of the scenes from the Nonton LK21 film are filmed in the hotel where the film is being shot. After watching the film, viewers will realize that if not for the film, the streets would be full of drug addicts. Because of the heavy involvement of police officers, many local residents are ashamed to speak against the police force.
